The multi-award-winning Battle of Bannockburn experience has level access throughout.

The Battle of Bannockburn is located on Glasgow Road, Stirling. There is car and pedestrian access from the main road.

Parking

  • We have a car park with six accessible parking spaces, less than 50m from the main entrance. Parking is free for members.
  • Visitors can be dropped off in the car park.
  • From the car park to the entrance, there is level access.
  • There is coach parking next to the main entrance. Coaches enter the coach parking via Fairhill Road.

Cycling

  • There are bike racks next to the main entrance.

Arrival

  • From the street to the main entrance, there is level access.
  • The main entrance is at the front of the visitor centre, next to the car park.
  • The main entrance has level access.
  • The main entrance has an automatic sliding door. There is a small porch immediately inside the main entrance.
  • There is another automatic sliding door from the porch into the visitor centre.

Facilities

Café

  • The café is at the back of the visitor centre, down the main corridor from the main entrance.
  • From the main entrance to the dining area, there is level access. To get to a table, there are no steps.
  • The dining area is self-service.
  • The route through the dining area is 800mm wide, or more.

Activity Room

  • The Activity Room is next to the café and is sometimes open.
  • It contains colouring-in sheets, toys, books and games for everyone to use.

Toilets

  • We have a lift, which provides access to all floors.
  • From the main entrance to the public toilet, there is level access.
  • The toilets are on your left-hand-side as you come in the main entrance.
  • There are ladies’ toilets, gents’ toilets, an accessible toilet and a baby changing room.
  • The accessible toilet has a wide doorway, safety rails/bars, and automatic hand-activated flush, taps and hand dryers.

Shop

  • The gift shop is on your right-hand-side as you come in the main entrance.
  • From the main entrance to the shop, there is level access.
  • Our shop is packed full of Battle of Bannockburn merchandise.
  • The route through the shop is 800mm wide, or more.

Learning Room

  • The Learning Room is next to the gift shop and is sometimes open.
  • It contains replica armour and weapons for everyone to try on and handle.

Front desk

  • The front desk is on your right-hand-side as you come in the main entrance, on the other side of the gift shop.
  • A member of staff will greet you when you enter the building.
  • Tickets for the guided tour of our immersive experience can be purchased at the front desk.
  • Tours start from next to the front desk. Tours last approximately 1 hour.

Visitor experience

Immersive experience and tour

  • The immersive experience is a series of films and exhibits that tell you about the Battle of Bannockburn.
  • It has low lighting so visitors can see the films clearly.
  • Visitors should expect to be on their feet for the duration of the tour, although there is a small amount of seating throughout the experience for those who require it.
  • Visitors enter the immersive experience through the black curtains.

Prologue

  • The first room of the Experience is called Prologue. In here, you will watch two films that explore the lead-up to the battle from both the Scottish and English perspective.

Battle Room

  • In the Battle Room, the guide will talk you through the events of the battle using the tabletop battle map.

Main Exhibition Room

  • In the Main Exhibition, floor-to-ceiling screens showing scenes from the battle surround the room.
  • The volume in this room is quite loud.
  • The guide will narrate the scenes.
  • Afterwards, there will be time to explore the other exhibits in the room.

Epilogue

  • The last room of the experience is called Epilogue. In here, you will watch a final film that tells you about the aftermath of the Battle of Bannockburn.

Outside

  • From the main entrance to the parkland, battleground and memorials, there is level access.
  • There is a timeline of events at the back of the visitor centre.
  • The Physic Garden contains herbs that would have been used for medicinal purposes at the time of the battle.
  • The Rotunda (the round wall) was opened in 1964 to commemorate the battle. The flagpole was erected in 1870. The cairn inside the Rotunda was built in 1957.
  • The statue of Robert the Bruce was unveiled in 1964.
