Burg
Planning your visit
Burg is open all year round and can only be accessed on foot. It’s a remote and spectacular area of coastal countryside with no visitor facilities and a long walk in from the parking area.
Burg paths have been filmed on Google Streetview Treks, where you can view the terrain in advance of your visit.
Please see our drop-down Facilities below for helpful information about planning your visit. For more information about planning your visit, please see our frequently asked questions.
If you’d like to speak to us, we can be contacted by email on burg@nts.org.uk or telephone 01681 700659 (or 07717 581405).
Facilities & access
- The 5-mile coastal path from the car park to the fossil tree is rough and not advisable for wheelchairs.
We have an ongoing programme of accessible content development. Detailed accessibility guides for the most visited Trust places are available on our Accessibility pages as well as links to useful resources.
We’d love you to visit the Euan’s Guide website to review the accessibility of Trust places and tell us (and others) what’s good and where we need to do better.
Dogs must be kept under close control, especially around livestock. Dogs are unable to access the final part of the walk as it involves clambering down the side of a cliff on an iron ladder.
Enjoy the 5-mile walk from the car park to the fossil tree – an imprint of a tree trunk left in the cliffs around 50 million years ago. The path leading to the fossil tree is rough and sometimes steep – you should allow at least 8 hours to get there and back.
Please ensure you’re well prepared with appropriate clothing and footwear (waterproofs and walking boots with ankle support) and plenty of food and drink.
For added adventure, climb Bearraich (432m) for spectacular views of Mull and the surrounding islands.
