Planning your visit
Pre-booking
We have set up a pre-booking system to make your visit easier and safer. Ticket numbers are capped each day, so please book in advance to avoid disappointment.
We strongly advise that you pre-book before travelling. If you do not pre-book, we cannot guarantee entry to the mill.
The visitor centre has a small exhibition and a refreshment area, with a small selection of cold drinks, ice-cream and snacks.
Dogs are welcome in the grounds but must be kept on a lead.

Facilities & access
- Visitors with disabilities may drive up to the exhibition room entrance.
- The ground floor of the mill is partly accessible.
- There are steep stairs to the upper floor.
- The exhibition and shop are fully accessible. The grounds of the mill are partially accessible.
We have an ongoing programme of accessible content development. Detailed accessibility guides for the most visited Trust places are available on our Accessibility pages as well as links to useful resources.
We’d love you to visit the Euan’s Guide website to review the accessibility of Trust places and tell us (and others) what’s good and where we need to do better.
Bike racks are available.
Dogs are welcome in the grounds but must be kept on a lead.
Access to Preston Mill is by guided tour only; these take place approximately every 45 minutes. The last tour begins no later than 4.15pm.
Guided tours are available by prior arrangement and booking is essential for groups of 10 or more or to avoid disappointment.
Parking is free for members of the National Trust for Scotland.
Parking is available 20 metres from the mill.
There are picnic tables and seats in the grounds.
A small selection of cold drinks, ice cream and snacks are available in the shop.
Take a look at our online shop as well for a wide range of Outlander-inspired gifts.
Look out for wildlife including kingfishers, otters and herons along the walk to Phantassie Doocot, as well as fish using the new fish pass in the restored weir.
